STARGAZERS’: Elizabeth Catlett in Conversation With 21 Contemporary ArtistsThe Bronx Museum of the Arts showcased STARGARZERS’ to highlight Elizabeth Catlett’s role as an innovative African American female artist and her influence on later generations of contemporary artists. This exhibition featured over 40 prints and sculptures of her work that had been created from the 1960’s to the present day. In addition, Stargazer’s also featured 21 international contemporary artists, of whom, shared similar attention to practice, technique and passion for exploring issues including race, gender, memory and politics.RBA organized the collection of artwork throughout the Northeast and properly delivered the works needed to realize the exhibition. www.bronxmuseum.org Blinky Palermo: Retrospective 1964-1977RBA is enormously pleased to have been the principal transport company for the acclaimed exhibition Blinky Palermo: Retrospective 1964–1977,which has concluded its year-long tour at Dia:Beacon and CCS Bard. Co-organized by Dia Art Foundation and CCS Bard, the first North American retrospective of the work of Blinky Palermo (1943–1977) was curated by Lynne Cooke and has traveled from: Los Angeles County Museum of Art (October 31, 2010–January 16, 2011) to the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (February 24–May 15, 2011) and the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College and Dia: Beacon (June 24 - October 31, 2011). RBA coordinated the logistics for all the international loans from several major museums and lenders in Germany and Switzerland. This exhibition, the final product of a cultural exchange between twenty-one U.S. and Latin American artists, travelled from Massachusetts to Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, and Ecuador.Organized by Ilan Stevens of Amhearst College; Julian Zugazagoitia, Director of the El Museo del Barrio in New York; and Mark Protti at the Center for Training and Development in Massachusetts, this exhibition showcased 18 artworks reflecting the artists’ experiences as they travelled in both the U.S. and the home countries of the South American artists, sharing knowledge with each other and engaging in dialogues about their craft. Upon conclusion of the tour RBA returned the artworks to each artist in his or her home state or country – no small task as customs procedures can be quite complicated in certain areas of South America. www.itd-amherst.org The Andy Warhol Museum, “Twisted Pair: Marcel Duchamp/Andy Warhol”This exhibition presented a variety of works from both Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968) and Andy Warhol (1928-1987). Themes in Sanborn’s work have included "making the invisible visible", with many sculptures focusing on topics such as magnetism, secret messages, and mysteries of atomic reactions. Sanborn’s sculptures are in many private and public collections and he has received numerous federal commissions for public sculpture. They were transported from Kensington Palace in London to Orlando, Florida. The dresses were hand-carried aboard British Airways by Racine Berkow. An additional cargo shipment containing dresses and gowns designed by Catherine Walker Studio was returned to the designer’s atelier in London.www.princessdianadresses.com DIA: BEACON: “Antoni Tapies: The Resources of Rhetoric”Dia and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, organized an exhibition by the venerable Spanish artist in which his works are compared to the works in Dia’s collection of American and German art from the Sixties and Seventies. RBA coordinated the transportation of these works, including several extremely large and oversized canvases.www.diabeacon.org MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK: “Amsterdam/New Amsterdam: The Worlds of Henry Hudson”In 1609, Henry Hudson, an Englishman sailing for the Dutch East India Company, made the first exploration of what is now New York Harbor and of the majestic river that today bears his name. His voyage of discovery led to the creation of the Dutch West India Company and ultimately to the founding of New Netherland, including its trading post at the mouth of the river — New Amsterdam, now known as New York City. Since its debut in Venice in 2002, the exhibition of more than 50 large-scale photographs and films depicting extraordinary interactions between humans and animals has been seen by more than a million and-a-half visitors in New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo. The exhibition is housed in a permanent travelling venue, “The Nomadic Museum,” a sustainable structure created from shipping containers and other recyclable and reusable materials.www.ashesandsnow.org RBA Wins Contract to Relocate the Robert E. Lee HouseArlington National CemeteryArlington, Virginia www.nps.gov RBA was awarded the contract to relocate the contents from the historic Robert E. Lee House overlooking Arlington National Cemetery. The contract was a public tender based on specifications prepared by the National Park Service. The winning bid was selected through a combination of price, credentials, and references. Contents from the house, including mirrors, paintings, and period furnishings were removed from the premises and put into storage at a temporary location while the house is being refurbished. The photo at left illustrates the scissor lift used to take some of the furnishings out the window because they were too big to be carried down the narrow stairwell. |
